PROJECT KERUNG

CONSTRUCTION OF TWO CLASSROOMS IN THE HAMLET OF CHYANGSAR.

Kerung is a village in the Khumbu valley low located between 2000m and 3000m altitude in Nepal. This village consists of 28 villages with about 1850 inhabitants. The population is predominantly Buddhist and Hindu, different ethnic groups: Sherpa, Tamang, Gurung, Magar, Chettri, etc..

To reach the village from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, it takes one day bus (300km tarmac and 88 km of dirt road and a fifty km walk).
There is also the possibility to reach this place by taking a domestic flight (46 minute flight and 30 km walk).
Chyangsar is a hamlet in the village of Kerung, home to some sixty families. There is a small school with 3 classes equivalent to CP, CE1 and CE2. There is no nursery school in Nepal (Kathmandu or unless there are private nurseries). Beyond the CE2, children must go to a different facility, located at 02-hour walk from their village . This means, in plain language, that these children walk 04 hours of walking daily, for all time.Knowing the weather extremes of these countries, the effort made by these children deserves our consideration and kindness.

Our project:

Building two classrooms and fund Chyangsar two professors on a maximum period of three years thereafter take over the state to pay for these two professors. It should be noted that the Nepalese government agreed to finance the salaries of teachers, after a trial period of three years, to verify that the viability of these schools.

The cost for the two rooms is about 2,000 euros, some supported by the association LILA (about half corresponding to the purchase of equipment and transport to the village) by the rest of the village volunteers . For teachers, 150 euros per month for 36 months or 5,400 euros, a large part is supported by the association LILA and supplemented by donations from the villagers.
